Carlos Vargas Vasserot
Carlos Vargas Vasserot is Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Almería (Spain) and a member of the International Association of Cooperative Law (IACL). He is Director of the Chair of Social Economy at the University of Almería and previously served as Director of its Research Centre for Social Economy and Cooperative Law (CIDES) from 2018 to 2025.
His main research fields are cooperative law, social economy law and social enterprises, with particular emphasis on cooperative principles, cooperative identity and their legal implementation. He has been Principal Investigator of several competitive research projects on cooperative and social economy law, including projects on the reformulation of cooperative principles, the legal recognition and regulation of social enterprises, cooperative integration and socially responsible restructuring, and, currently, the transformative role of the social and solidarity economy.
He is the author and editor of numerous publications in these fields and has participated as a speaker in international conferences organised by the International Cooperative Alliance and other leading academic networks.
He is Deputy Director of CIRIEC-España, Revista Jurídica de Economía Social y Cooperativa, and a member of several international research networks.
